Conservatives Increase Councillors in Local Elections
The local elections on 5th of May was a good night for Taunton Deane Conservatives though tinted with disappointment. With a net gain of three new councillors Conservatives fell one short of gaining outright control of the Council.
After running a positive and constructive election campaign Conservatives made their biggest gains in Wellington where one the existing representation what increased from one councillor to four. New Councillor James Hunt (Wellington East) said "Wellington has been under represented by Conservatives in recent years but we knew there was good support for us here. We kept our campaign positive, made plegdes we know we can achieve and dealt with the issues of the day. Now we can get on with the job we were elected to do and bring some of the things we promised to fruition."
John Williams, Conservative Group Leader, has already started setting in motion some of the election promises. The introduction of houshold batteries into the 'Sort it' recycle collection and the High Street facelift should be early on the list of achievements.
